Lessons in drumming NZ 2011

Lessons in drumming NZ was formed by mlgdrumming (Mark L Griffiths) mlgdrumming was started in circa 1980 when I started teaching from home with a few students. Prior to that I had a strong passion for drumming from very early childhood, forming a band with friends in our basement at age 4 which I still clearly remember. Drumming wasn't really an option in our household for reasons I couldn't understand but my father was an amazing piano player so music was prevalent at home. We were allowed to learn piano which I learnt pieces of here and there, but drumming was my passion so I secretly played to music with my pieces of dowel on anything that made a half good sound, including my red plastic dog. He made a great sound :)

Further down the track when I started High School in Tauranga NZ I jumped at the opportunity for the free lunch time drum tuition and can remember hearing some really excellent young players which inspired me to learn everything I possibly could.

From there we relocated back to Auckland and I was fortunate enough to be allowed a private tutor by the name of Ian Inglis who introduced me to a whole new world of drumming at the age of 13. After a few months, myself and another of his students became the drummers for the North Shore Youth Concert Band and now when I look back I realise how important this was in the development of good diciplinary skills. At our weekly lessons, rudiments and chart reading were a major part and at times extremely challenging.

Over the years drumming has been a huge part of my life and I was fortunate enough to make it my career and play with many admirable musicians in Australia and New Zealand, currently I'm working on developing other skills to better enable me to tutor and work online as a session artist.
