Lessons in drumming NZ has been designed for the purposes of teaching people online, how to play drums from the very beginning, through various methods and channels that will make it easy and enjoyable for all ages to learn how to play.
The main idea behind the website is to introduce an appealing design with a simple flowing navigation from start to finish, with the lessons themselves remaining as uncomplicated as possible and easy to read and understand and to be able to be accessed from anywhere. They are designed also so that students can have fun and enjoy learning this way and at their own pace. Skype one to one tuition will also be available.
The lessons are coupled with written instructions to help with the understanding of them and videos with voice over have also been added to YouTube to see and hear how the lessons can be played. Podcasts for each lesson are also available to listen to. The videos, podcasts and sheet music were designed with offering variety of learning whereby the so many different aspects of learning any instrument have the best chance to be covered through the internet medium.
The software that was chosen to write the charts was chosen because of their clarity of the production and ability for the users to interact. They can be just printed out to work on with the videos on your own or worked on with a tutor. They can also be listened to over and over again, sped up, slowed down, resized and played with or without a metronome playing in the background. All that is needed to view the charts is the plug-in from Myriad Music for your browser, the plug-in runs on Macintosh (Mac OS X 10.3 and more) and Windows (95, 98, ME, 2000, XP, Vista or 7). Myriad Music Plug-In is freeware, completely free of charge and has been successfully tested on many browsers, check here for a complete list.

The main motivation for building this site is so that users anywhere can have the opportunity to learn the art of drumming as long as they have an internet connection and a reasonable computer. These lessons are also a collection of experiences of live drumming, studio, teaching and learning over a period of many years. Some of the lesson material has been collected by me and kept since 1977. The different drum tutors I've been to over the years have offered lessons that were unique, diverse, truly challenging and satisfying. What has been learnt over the years will be woven through the lessons as the site progresses. Drumming and the world of music is changing with mediums such as the internet and 3G networks and so making a living from drumming and the education of it is also changing. With this technology bands can employ session drummers from anywhere just the same as students can learn from experienced drum tutors on the other side of the world. The internet gives great opportunity for students to learn what was maybe never possible before.
