Remember what you learnt in lesson three, now add the bass drum to the mix. Look back at lesson three notes for revision if neccessary.
Looking at lesson 3a with bass drum on 1/4 notes added. If you have a bass (kick) drum, try playing all the 1/4 notes on the bass drum while you are playing the snare parts. If you do not have a bass drum, don't worry, just tap your right foot if you are right handed or left foot if you are left handed. If you are serious about more indepth study preferably with your tutor or by yourself I recommend this book, Rhythm Reading for Drums-Book 1- Rhythm Reading for Drums provides a highly organized, systematic approach to reading and understanding rhythm for the beginning drummer/percussionist. Basic rhythm patterns including counting system and foot tapping indications are introduced on each page in eight-measure studies followed by a short solo.
Practise at slow speeds (60,70bpm, then slowly increase them and practise them until you can play them comfortably at each new speed before moving onto the next)
